Version 2.77

Description

Anti-Ma antibodies bind with the onconeuronal proteins PNMA1 and PNMA2 while anti-Ta antibodies bind only to PNMA2. Ma+Ta are paraneoplastic antibodies with distinctly different clinical presentations. Ta antibodies have been found in young men with limbic encephalitis in whom a testicular tumor is present. The prognosis is one of long-term survival with reduction in the neurological symptoms post cancer treatment. Ma antibodies are found in both men and women who are usually middle-aged. There is an array of neurological symptoms and different tumors associated with Ma antibodies. PMID: 18223018 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
