Description
Nicotinuric acid (Nicotinurate) is a metabolite of nicotinic acid and nicotinamide (Niacinamide). The concentration of nicotinuric acid in plasma is largely variable, similar to concentrations of nicotinic acid and nicotinamide. These metabolites are measured as part of therapeutic drug monitoring/toxcicological testing associated with niacin (Vitamin B3) supplementation. Nicotinuric acid may also serve as a simple quantitative index of hepatic biotransformation of nicotinic acid. Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID: 3243933
