Version 2.77

Description

M2-3E (BPO) antigen is a recombinant fusion protein that is made up of the E2 subunits of the branched-chain 2-oxoacid dehydrogenase (BCOADH), pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) and 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase (OGDH). The presence of anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMA) against M2-3E antigens is used for the diagnosis of primary biliary liver cirrhosis (PBC), an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory liver disease of unknown cause. Approximately 86% of patients with PBC have M2-3E autoantibodies. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
