Description
A recurring chromosome aberration resulting in a dicentric chromosome, dic(9;20)(p11~13;q11), occurs in patients with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), specifically B-cell precursor. Dic(9;20) occurs due to a breakpoint within the PAX5 gene on 9p, which fuses with one of a number of different genes on 20q. This usually results in loss of 9p and 20q material. It can occur as part of a complex karyotype or an individual cytogenetic abnormality. It is known to occur in the presence of the BCR-ABL1, t(9;22)(q34.1;q11), and ETV6-RUNX1, t(12;21)(p13;q22.3), fusion genes. Relapses after treatment are quite common. However, post-relapse treatment of many patients is successful. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
