Description
Parathion is an extremely toxic cholinesterase acaricide and insecticide used on agricultural crops including fruit, cotton, wheat, and nuts. In humans, parathion is severely toxic if inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin or the eyes. Symptoms of acute exposure to parathion include irritation to eyes or skin, respiratory system, blurring or dimness of vision, rhinorrhea, headache, chest tightness, wheezing, laryngeal spasm, salivation, cyanosis, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, sweating, muscle fasciculation, lassitude, paralysis, dizziness, confusion, ataxia, convulsions, coma, low blood pressure, and cardiac irregularities. Parathion is classified as a possible human carcinogen and teratogen. It is also dangerously toxic to aquatic life.[PubChem:991] Source: Regenstrief LOINC
