Lupus anticoagulant
Active
Description
Lupus anticoagulant neutralization test is a confirmatory test that detects antibodies K777 against factors that prevent blood clotting. When a lupus anticoagulant is positive, mixing studies are performed to confirm the presence of an inhibitor. Excess hexagonal phase phospholipid is added to the patient sample before re-running the test. The addition of excess phospholipid will neutralize the clotting inhibitors because lupus anticoagulants are phospholipid dependent. The addition of excess phospholipid overwhelms the lupus anticoagulants and corrects the clotting time. Source: Regenstrief Institute
