Nordiazepam is an intermediate in the metabolism of diazepam to oxazepam. Diazepam is used for the management of anxiety disorders, as an adjunct for the relief of skeletal muscle spasm and for convulsive disorders/status epilepticus, and as a minor tranquilizer or sedative. Nordazepam (brand names Nordaz, Stilny, Madar, Vegesan, and Calmday), also known as desoxydemoxepam and desmethyldiazepam, is a benzodiazepine derivative and similar to other benzodiazepine derivatives, it has amnesic, anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, muscle relaxant, and sedative properties. It is used primarily in the treatment of anxiety. It is an active metabolite of diazepam, chlordiazepoxide, clorazepate, prazepam, pinazepam, and medazepam.
