Book Reference
Norfloxacin is a synthetic broad-spectrum fluorquinolone that is effective against aerobic and anaerobic Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Norfloxacin blocks bacterial enzyme activity of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase that are required to synthesize mRNA and DNA for bacterial replication. Norfloxacin was used for years to treat many bacterial infections, but now has limited indications for urinary tract infections, prostatitis, and sexually transmitted diseases caused by sensitive organisms. Side effects of norfloxacin include gastrointestinal upset, skin rash, and allergic reactions. More severe reactions to treatment using norfloxacin included prolongation of the QT interval, seizures, hallucinations, tendon rupture, hypersensitivity reactions, angioedema, photosensitivity and peripheral neuropathy. It has rarely been associated with acute hepatocellular injury.[https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK547850/]
