Maprotiline (drug class tetracyclic antidepressants) is used to treat depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety. Antidepressants increased the risk compared to placebo of suicidal thinking and behavior (suicidality) in children, adolescents and young adults in short-term studies of major depressive disorder and other psychiatric disorders. Some common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, weakness or tiredness, nightmares, dry mouth, skin more sensitive to sunlight than usual, changes in appetite or weight, constipation, difficulty urinating, frequent urination, and blurred vision, changes in sex drive or ability, and excessive sweating.
