Version 2.80

Descriptions

A 302-amino-acid fragment in the alpha chain (672-1663) of C3b. It is generated when C3b is inactivated (iC3b) and its alpha chain is cleaved by COMPLEMENT FACTOR I into C3c, and C3dg (955-1303) in the presence COMPLEMENT FACTOR H. Serum proteases further degrade C3dg into C3d (1002-1303) and C3g (955-1001). Source: National Library of Medicine, MeSH 2006

Complement C3d developed for the detection of Circulating Immune Complexes (CICs). Other CICs tests include PEG precipitation, radial immunodiffusion and cellular based assays, such as the Raji cell assay. No single procedure appears to detect all types of CIC; however, those procedures that detect CICs containing fragments of complement (e.g., C1q and C3d) appear to detect clinically relevant events. C3d is a fragment of the ProC3 cleaved protein once activation begins. C3d is associated with Antibody;Antigen complexes during active phases of disease by the end result of a series of cleavage products. (Test information from Quest Diagnostics).
