Descriptions

A glycine-rich, heat-labile serum glycoprotein that contains a component of the ALTERNATIVE COMPLEMENT C3 CONVERTASE (C3bBb). Bb, a serine protease, is generated when factor B is cleaved by COMPLEMENT FACTOR D into Ba and Bb. Source: National Library of Medicine, MeSH 2006

Complement Factor B present during primary activation of complement system via the alternative pathway is occuring when C3 and PFB are decreased and C4 is normal. There are two independent pathways for complement activation --- the classical system activated by immune complexes and the alternate pathway activated by bacterial cell walls ans complex polysaccharides.
