Description

Leukocyte Phosphatase testing is used for the differential diagnosis of hairy cell leukemia. Test is interpreted in conjunction with Wright's stain. Acid phosphatase enzyme present in hairy cell is resistant to tartrate while the enzyme in other lymphoid cells are tartrate sensitive.

Useful in the differentiation of chronic myelogenous leukemia from leukemoid reactions as seen in severe infections, polycythemia vera and agnogenic myeloid metaplasia. Source: Regenstrief Institute
