A vitamin-K dependent zymogen present in the blood, which, upon activation by thrombin and thrombomodulin exerts anticoagulant properties by inactivating factors Va and VIIIa at the rate-limiting steps of thrombin formation. Source: National Library of Medicine, MeSH 2006
Protein C is a vitamin K dependant protease found in the plasma. When activated by thrombin and thrombomodulin protein C proteolytically inactivates factors V and VIII and as such is a powerful anticoagulant. Source: Regenstrief Institute
