Version 2.77

Descriptions

Clostridium tetani is a bacterium of the genus Clostridium. Like other Clostridium species, it is Gram-positive, resembling tennis rackets or drumsticks. In 1884, the strychnine-like toxin of tetanus was isolated from free-living, anaerobic soil bacteria and shortly thereafter, in 1890, a vaccine was developed using tetanus toxoid.
