SCL-70 extractable nuclear
Active
Description
Topoisomerase I (also known as Scl-70) is a nuclear enzyme that plays a role in releasing tension that is introduced in double-stranded DNA during DNA replication by transiently cleaving and rejoining one strand of the DNA duplex. Anti-Scl-70 autoantibodies are a marker of systemic sclerosis as well as other autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). In patients with systemic sclerosis, anti-SCL-70 may be associated with more severe disease, and in patients with SLE, anti-SCL-70 suggests an increased risk of pulmonary hypertension and renal involvement. In general, anti-SCL-70 antibody status may help with diagnosis, treatment planning and prognosis in patients with connective tissue disease. PMID: 11229469 Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID: 11229469
