Descriptions
A wide spectrum aliphatic organophosphate insecticide widely used for both domestic and commercial agricultural purposes. Source: National Library of Medicine, MeSH 2006
Malathion is an organophosphate insecticide that poisons sucking and chewing insects on fruits and vegetables, mosquitoes, flies, household insects, animal parasites, and head and body lice. It is classified as slightly toxic and is rapidly absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract, skin, mucous membranes, and lungs. Symptoms of acute exposure in humans include nausea, headache, tightness in the chest, unconsciousness, and convulsions. Malathion is moderately toxic to birds and highly toxic to aquatic invertebrates, aquatic stages of amphibians, and to honey bees. Malathion is rapidly broken down in soil and is not expected to bioaccumulate in the environment.[https://www.google.com/search?q=ecosystem&rlz=1C1GGRV_enUS751US751&oq=ecosystem&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l5.1863j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8] Source: Regenstrief LOINC
