Clara cell protein 16
Active
Description
Clara cell protein 16 (CC16, sometimes referred to as CC10, clara cell secretory protein [CCSP] or uteroglobin) is an anti-inflammatory protein belonging to the secretoglobin family. It is secreted from clara cells, non-ciliated cells found in the small airways (bronchioles) of the lungs. CC16 is a biomarker for several conditions, including asthma, lung injuries, exposure to asbestos, fetal pulmonary hypoplasia, and cardiac pleural congestion. In serum, an increase is associated with sarcoidosis and exposure to asbestos, for example. Decreased levels are associated with asthma, pulmonary edema and acute lung injuries.
