Description

Proteinase 3 (PR3) is an enzyme contained in white blood cell neutrophils. It contributes to the breakdown of microbial proteins into polypeptides or amino acids (proteolysis). Antibodies to Proteinase 3 are a subgroup of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies that can cause the disease granulomatosis with polyangitis that affects primarily the kidneys and the lungs.
