Description
Bacteria bile solubility testing is performed primarily to differentiate bile soluble Streptococcus pneumoniae from bile insoluble alpha-hemolytic streptococci. Cells of Streptococcus pneumoniae lyse when treated with a 10% solution of sodium desoxycholate, while other streptococci and grampositive cocci are not bile soluble. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
