Anisocytosis
Active
Description
Anisocytosis indicates that red blood cells seen on blood smears vary in size. This phenomona occurs in anemia and other blood conditions. When measured via automatic machines, false diagnostic flagging may be triggered by an elevated WBC count, agglutinated RBCs, RBC fragments, giant platelets or platelet clumps. The red cell distribution width (RDW) is a measure of anisocytosis. Copyright Text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License.
