Adalimumab
Active
Description
Adalimumab is a human monoclonal antibody that binds tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα). TNFα is a cell signaling protein that, when present in excess, may lead to the development of inflammatory immune diseases including Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. Adalimumab inactivates TNFα by binding to the TNFα receptor. PMID: 23943614 Treatment with adalimumab does not necessitate laboratory monitoring though association with increased transamines and pancytopenia may argue for intermittant blood cell counts and liver function tests. Adalimumab has been associated with serious infections including the reactivation of tuberculosis and deep fungal infections as well as other rare side effects, including lymphoma, heart failure and demyelinating disease.
