Version 2.80

Description

Alpha-aminoadipic semialdehyde (α-AASA) is a derivative of lysine used in the production of elastin and collagen. Accumulation of α-AASA (in CSF, plasma and urine) and pipecolic acid (CSF and plasma) due to a deficiency of α-AASA dehydrogenase (antiquin) occurs in patients with pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy (PDE), a rare, autosomal recessive disorder. PMID: 17560822 α-AASA exists in a reversible equilibrium with its Schiff base, delta-1-piperideine-6-carboxylate (P6C), which is also measured, sometimes in summation with α-AASA.
