Description
Clostridium perfringens is a gram positive, anaerobic, rod-shaped bacterium that produces several distinct toxins, including alpha-toxin (CPA), beta-toxin (CPB), epsilon-toxin (ETX) and iota-toxin (ITX). C. perfringens is classified into five genotypes designated A through E based on the unique combination of toxins produced by each. For example, C. perfringens type E produces CPA and ITX, and type D produces CPA and ETX. PMID: 22069542 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
