Version 2.77

Description

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), also referred to as Blue-Ear Pig disease, causes significant disease and can lead to reproductive failures such as weak fetuses, mummified fetuses, abortions or still borns. PRRSV is an RNA virus and belongs to the order Nidovirales, family Arteriviridae and the genus Arterivirus. PRRSV is spread among all ages of pigs and herds through direct and indirect contact. PRRSV is considered one of the most economically important infectious agents in the swine industry worldwide. The continual changing genomic characteristics of the various strains of this virus make testing of herds an important part of disease management. PMID: 26646630 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
