9-Hydroxyrisperidone
Active
Description
9-Hydroxyrisperidone, also called paliperidone, is an active metabolite of risperidone and is itself a prescribable atypical antipsychotic. Although 9-Hydroxyrisperidone is a metabolite of risperidone, they have several important differences including serotonin 5-HT2A and dopamine D2 receptor binding, and ability to cross the blood brain barrier (BBB). Risperidone has a significantly lower 5-HT2A/D2 binding ratio and crosses the BBB more effectively. Both drugs are used to treat schizophrenia and other related disorders.
