Reticulocyte hemoglobin distribution width
Active
Description
Reticulocyte hemoglobin distribution width (HDWr) is a measure of the variability in reticulocyte hemoglobin concentration. Along with other reticulocyte indices, HDWr can be used to monitor treatment efficacy for certain types of anemia, such as magnesium therapy in sickle cell disease. HDWr is analogous to red cell hemoglobin concentration distribution width (HDW), and HDWr tends to be greater than HDW, indicating greater variability in reticulocyte hemoglobin concentration compared to that of red blood cells.
