Mean platelet component
Active
Description
Mean platelet component concentration (MPC) is linearly related to platelet density (granularity) and is reduced when platelets degranulate, signifying that platelets have undergone activation and correlating with CD62P expression on the platelet membrane. This platelet parameter is a potentially simple and early screening indicator of acute phase platelet activation, and may be useful for monitoring patients with atherothrombosis and/or cardiovascular events. MPC is affected by time and storage conditions in standard anticoagulants based on EDTA. PMID: 20427079 Source: NCBI PubMed , PMID: 20427079
