Version 2.78

Description

N-methylhistamine (NHM) is the primary metabolite of histamine, which is produced by mast cells. Mast cells are often activated due to an allergic immune response. Increased production of histamine is seen in patients with severe allergic reactions and in patients with mastocytosis, a rare condition associated with abnormal proliferation of mast cells. NHM levels are measured to screen and monitor patients with such conditions. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
