Version 2.77

Descriptions

A species of gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacteria commonly isolated from clinical specimens (wound, burn, and urinary tract infections). It is also found widely distributed in soil and water. P. aeruginosa is a major agent of nosocomial infection. Source: National Library of Medicine, MeSH 2006

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an important opportunistic pathogen that causes severe respiratory infection. Exotoxin A (toxA) is one of its primary virulence factors, and the presence of RegA , a protein encoded by the regA gene, is essential for P aeruginosa toxA expression. Identification of the regA gene in clinical specimens can be useful for identifying P aeruginosa as a causative pathogen. PMID: 18048935 Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID: 18048935
