Haemophilus influenzae lex2 gene
Active
Description
Haemophilus influenzae is a gram-negative bacteria and is the cause of a variety of infections including otitis media and upper respiratory tract infections, as well as more severe infections in patients who are not immunized, such as meningitis and sepsis. The lex2 gene is responsible for the expression of a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) that has been associated with H influenzae virulence. Identification of lex2 in clinical specimens can be used to identify H influenzae as one of the pathogens responsible for a specific infection.
