Klebsiella pneumoniae phoE gene
Active
Description
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a common pathogen in hospital-acquired respiratory infections and antibiotic-resistant strains of K pneumoniae have been identified in local outbreaks. This microorganism has several porins in its outer membrane that regulate the entry of antibiotics into the cell, one of which is phosphate-regulated PhoE. PhoE is encoded by the gene phoE and the expression of this porin has been associated with antibiotic resistance. Detection of the phoE gene in a clinical specimen can identify K pneumoniae as one of the pathogens responsible for infection. PMID: 17005822 Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID: 17005822
