Klebsiella oxytoca is a Gram-negative, non-motile bacterium of the genus Klebsiella. They are present in soil and water and part of the human intestinal tract flora. K. oxytoca can spread to other parts of the body and cause life-threatening diseases, including pneumonia, urinary tract infections (UTIs), and bacteremia. K. oxytoca is frequently spread in intensive care units or nursing homes and primarily affects individuals with diseases causing weak immune systems, including alcoholism, diabetes, chronic bronchopulmonary disease.
