Bacterial carbapenem resistance blaOXA gene
Active
Description
Oxacillinases, or OXA beta-lactamases, are Class D plasmid-mediated beta-lactamases that hydrolyze oxacillin and related anti-staphylococcal penicillins. Amino acid substitutions in OXA enzymes can also give the extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) phenotype. While most ESBLs have been found in E. coli, K. pneumoniae, and other Enterobacteriaceae, the OXA-type ESBLs have been found mainly in P. aeruginosa. The bla(OXA) gene is one of several beta-lactam antibiotic resistance gene markers. Copyright Text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License.
