Version 2.80

Description

Interstitial collagenase (matrix metalloproteinase 1, MMP-1) is a protein encoded by the MMP1 gene.[UniProt: P03956] MMP-1 is involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. Specifically, MMP-1 breaks down the interstitial collagens, types I, II, and III, and is thought to be important in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
