Parotid secretory protein Ab.IgG
Active
Description
Parotid secretory protein (PSP) antibodies may be useful markers for identifying patients with Sjogren's disease or Sjogren's syndrome early in the course of disease and those who have significant symptoms but are anti-Ro and anti-La antibody negative. Sjogren's disease is an autoimmune disease associated with kidney and lung disease as well as disorders of the salivary and lacrimal glands, which lead to problems with dry eyes and mouth. Sjogren's syndrome is associated with isolated salivary and lacrimal gland dysfunction and may be associated with other autoimmune disorders, such as systemic lupus erythematosus. Both the disease and syndrome are typically diagnosed later in the disease course due to non-specific or mild symptoms early in the course. PSP is a protein secreted from the parotid glands that is involved with binding and helping clear various infectious agents. Antibodies to PSP rarely occur in healthy controls or patients with rheumatoid arthritis. PMID: 23123440 Source: Regenstrief LOINC , PMID: 23123440
