Pulse wave velocity
Active
Description
Arterial pulse wave velocity, such as aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV), is a reflection of arterial stiffness, and aortic PWV may be a marker of cardiovascular outcomes in patients with hypertension, diabetes and end-stage renal disease. PWV is calculated as the distance traveled between two arterial pulse measurement sites, such as the carotid and femoral arteries, divided by the time it takes for a single pulse wave to travel between the two sites.
