Description
CD45 (also known as leukocyte common antigen) is a tyrosine phosphatase specific to hematopoietic cells that is necessary for efficient T and B cell antigen receptor signal transduction. Multiple CD45 isoforms can be generated by alternative splicing of the A, B and C extracellular domains. In humans, naive T lymphocytes express CD45RA, which includes the A domain, and activated T lymphocytes express CD45RO, which does not contain A, B or C. PMID: 16423560 CD45RB and RC are not as well-understood in humans as CD45RA and RO, but peripheral T cells that express CD45RA have also been found to express high levels of CD45RB, whereas CD45RO cells do not PMID: 15020649, and high levels of CD45RC expression on CD8+ T cells may be predictive of acute kidney graft rejection in transplant patients.
