Version 2.80

Description

Arginase is an enzyme that hydrolyzes arginine to ornithine and urea. Two isoforms of arginase have been defined: liver-type arginase (arginase-1) and extrahepatic type arginase (arginase-2). PMID: 6419196 They differ in their tissue distribution, subcellular localization, immunologic crossreactivity and physiologic function. Arginase-1 [UniProt: P05089], encoded by the ARG1 gene, is a cytosolic enzyme and expressed to some extent in erythrocytes but predominantly in the liver as a component of the urea cycle.
