Streptavidin
Active
Description
Streptavidin is a protein purified from the bacterium Streptomyces avidinii, with homo-tetramers having an extraordinarily high affinity for biotin.[Wikipedia: Streptavidin] The biological function is unknown. Streptavidin is used extensively in molecular biology and bio-nanotechnology due to the streptavidin-biotin complex's resistance to organic solvents, denaturants, detergents, proteolytic enzymes, and extremes of temperature and pH. The most common uses are the purification or detection of various biomolecules. PMID: 2928324 Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID: 2928324
