Description
Yeasts are eukaryotic unicellular microorganisms of the kingdom Fungi with about 1,500 species. Most reproduce asexually by budding, although a few do so by binary fission. Budding yeasts possess either one (haploid) or two (diploid) genomes and they reproduce by forming buds (hence the name) during mitosis. Source: Regenstrief Institute, Budding yeast
