Version 2.80

Description

Double-positive (DP) T cells are an unusual type of mature T lymphocyte that expresses both CD4 and CD8 (in addition to CD3, which defines a cell as a T cell). Typically, T cells express CD3 plus either CD4 or CD8, which identifies them as helper or cytotoxic T cells, respectively. DP T cells have been described in patients with certain conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic sclerosis, Kawasaki disease, and HIV and EBV infections, but their exact role or function is not well understood.
