Cells.CD38+HLA-DR+
Active
Description
Activated T-cells are characterized by coexpression of CD38 and HLA-DR and may be measured as fractions of CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell populations. In patients with HIV, activated T-cell levels are directly correlated to viral load and inversely correlated to CD4+ T-cell count. However, activated CD8+ T-cell levels may be more closely related to viral load, and successful treatment with anti-retroviral therapy with resulting decrease in viral load has been associated with a concomitant decrease in activated CD8+ T-cells. Likewise, increases in CD4+ T-cell counts have been associated with a decrease in the level of activated CD4+ T-cells. In addition, co-infection in patients with HIV is also associated with CD4+ T-cell activation but not that of the CD8+ T-cell population. PMID: 15688282 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
