Description
CD25 (IL-2) and CD127 (IL-7) expression on CD4 T cells can subset CD4 cells into three specific populations: 1) IL-2 producing naive and central memory T cells (CD25(low/-)CD127+); 2) effector T cells (CD25-CD127-); and 3) regulatory T cells (CD127(low)CD25(high)). With disease progression, patients with HIV may have specific changes in these CD4 subsets, including a relative increase in CD25-CD127- CD4 cells that is associated with declining CD4 count and immune activation.
