Version 2.78

Description

T-cell receptors (TCR) are composed of two polypeptide chains. The majority of TCRs have an alpha and a beta chain, but some have a gamma and delta chain. Most T cells that express TCR alpha beta are either CD4+ or CD8+. However, double-negative T cells, which are both CD4- and CD8-, also express TCR alpha beta. Double-negative T cells are associated with and may play a role in the pathogenesis of certain autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome.
