Pressure half time.diastole
Active
Description
Pressure half-time is the time needed for the atrioventricular pressure gradient to reduce to half its initial measurement during ventricular diastole. It is primarily assessed through Doppler echocardiography though more invasive cardiac catherization and provides a means of calculating the approximate mitral valve area and evaluating mitral valve stenosis regurgitation. Caution should be used when applying pressure half-time measurements in patients with prosthetic mitral valves, mitral commissurotomy, tachycardia, arrhythmias, and aortic insufficiency.
