Active
Description
Zika virus contains an inner nucleocapsid composed of RNA and multiple copies of the viral capsid (C) protein. The outer host contains 180 copies each of two proteins: the viral membrane (M) protein and the envelope (E) protein (Kostyuchenko et al., 2016; Sirohi et al., 2016). Viral RNA of the Zika virus has been identified in the brain and liver of fetuses and in the brain, eyes, spleen, liver and placenta of pregnant mothers, with the highest viral load existing in the placenta.(Adams Waldorf et al., 2016).
