Description

Hemoglobin Q (Hb Q) is defined in terms of a specific band on electrophoresis. A few variants (example Hb Q India) are named for the place where they were first noted to exist. Hb Q, a relatively uncommon alpha-chain structural Hb variant, has been reported either in the heterozygous state or interacting with beta-thalassaemia. Individuals inheriting Hb Q generally are asymptomatic and are diagnosed by chance during population screening or as a part of a family study. PMID: 18236737 Source: PubMed Health, Pubmed: 18236737
