Version 2.80

Description

Glucan 1,4-alpha-glucosidase (EC 3.2.1.3), also known as glucoamylase, is part of the maltase-glucoamylase (MGA) complex found in the mucosal brush border of the small intestine. MGA plays a role in starch digestion, and more specifically, glucan 1,4-alpha-glucosidase successively hydrolyzes terminal-linked alpha-D-glucose residues from the non-reducing ends with release of beta-D-glucose. Deficiency of intestinal glucan 1,4-alpha-glucosidase is associated with chronic diarrhea that responds to dietary starch elimination. PMID: 9446624 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
