2-Hydroxyisobutyrate
Active
Description
2-hydroxyisobutyrate is the major urinary matbolite of ETBE, an oxygenated compound used in gasoline to increase oxygen content and reduce vehicle exhaust emission and aromatic compound content. Individuals exposed to ETBE have higher levels of 2-hydroxyisobutyrate as well as 2-methyl-1,2-propane diol. Neurological effects have only been observed at high levels of exposure.
