Linezolid
Active
Description
Linezolid is a synthetic antibiotic that belongs to the oxazolidinone class. It is used to treat bacterial infections that are resistant to multiple antimicrobial drugs including streptococcus and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Linezolid prevents bacteria from initiating bacterial protein synthesis.[https://www.drugbank.ca/drugs/DB00601]For patients with tuberculosis infection that is resistant to both isoniazid and rifampicin, the use of linezolid has shown to improve the rate of sputum culture conversion. However, for patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis, linezolid has proven to be difficult to tolerate due to its cumulative dose-related toxicity. PMID: 26870767 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
